There's an old German fairy tale about a Miller, who brags to everyone in his village of his daughter's ability to spin straw into gold.

Word eventually gets back to the king.

And really, when is it ever good when word gets back to a king?

Now this king brings the miller of the rumored magical maiden to his castle, and asks him

if what he's heard is true. Can his daughter really turn straw into gold?

The father tells him, yes, it's true.

Oh, that's wonderful, the King says with a smile.

The Miller beams with pride.

That is, until the King tells him, he will take the girl captive, and she must weave his

straw into gold by mourning or it's off with her head.

You see, the problem was, the Miller was lying.

So the maiden is taken into a cold dungeon with the threat of a beheading looming over her, and
