0:00.0 | Welcome back to Caffado Cast everyone. I have David D'Austin across from me or from to the side of me and we have a very special guest one of our |
0:24.5 | favorite mates from across the pond the mad scientist mister G from Spartan precision. Well wonderful to be here guys. It's been a long time and we haven't seen you and what it's what has been since last year here a year and a half two years |
0:37.5 | two years I would say I'm and the dreaded the dreaded covid stuffed me really it won't allow to travel so we could talk about that for a long time but we're probably poor everybody. |
0:48.5 | And anyway I ended up having to take the vaccinations not that I agree with it but you're without that I can't travel and there we are but I've taken them I've had the contraceptive. |
0:59.5 | And now they're still the show must go on. Yeah, I think we had plans for you to stop by last year and then covid struck and through a wrench and the whole thing you were you're playing on doing like a big tour across America or something |
1:13.5 | or absolutely so I'm doing a mini tour now and meet my favorite people quickly and then I'll come back early in the new year as long as sanity still prevails and you back to do some more stuff yeah for sure. |
1:25.5 | Yeah, Mr. G's got a table full of some top secret some not so top secret items that he's been working on work cited to talk about and get into it. |
1:35.5 | If you're not familiar with Mr. G is the owner of Spartan precision and give us a little breakdown of what you do and what if people aren't familiar with the bad yeah yeah certainly so basically from my perspective I come from very much from a hunting background climbing background some of the other guys are much more military law enforcement background but we make modular shooting support systems so that's first and foremost what we done basically products designed by shooters for shooting. |
2:04.5 | Shooters for shooters which will also carry your optics and in the olden days you know some of those things didn't work as well as we would like but we fine tune them now and really the business grew around the hunting side of things and the US has been fantastic for us we've got a lot of friends and a lot of great people's really support what we do over here. |
2:27.5 | You guys have a lot of guns we don't in the UK so it's really where we need to be and more recently over the last two years we've done much more for the military and police but not regular units because we're just not big enough to handle that kind of demand yet so we work a lot with the SF units and yeah it's working well they like what we do so modular systems I sort of call it Lego really and you build the system to meet your application and you've been using the stuff for a while. |
2:56.5 | We've been using the stuff for a wee while Frank and back a lot of stuff so we keep on just fine tuning things and trying to make them right. |
3:05.5 | Yeah it's been exciting watching your company grow because I think I met you at maybe sheep show five years ago maybe that would be right and that's when you're kind of just taking off and I see a lot of similarities between your company and in kefar of to where you know start off as a small niche type company and you grow and you want to keep making. |
3:24.5 | Gear to be the best of what you can offer so I think one of the last times you're here you said it's not the best for everything but it's the best at some things and now I'm seeing from all the new year you have on the table here you're really going after bringing the best products. |
3:40.5 | Market that you can offer so yeah it's really exciting to watch that growth and it's you go how big is the company now how much of you guys growing last year we far I'd say this year will grow by another 70% and really I don't want to grow any more than that because we blow up trying to keep up. |
3:57.5 | And I mean if I was 25 or 35 I'd have a very different view on things but at the 10 rage of 57 or more 58 year my drive is very different from probably normal business people I'm a big outdoors person I want to be out playing all the time I need knees and hips still work and I can actually see things so I just want to make great gear and I'd be the first to say we don't always get that right indeed we've had plenty of epic screw ups along the journey but. |
4:26.5 | I think we've had such a following where people see where we're going and what we're trying to achieve that's been a great sort of. |
4:34.5 | Oh what's the word I use sort of influence for us really to make the stuff as good as we can and if I can make it any better I would but I'm really happy with what we're doing now I'm really happy with the products that we've got currently on the market I think they're sort of where we wanted to be a long time ago is the same with you guys in your packs you. |
4:54.5 | Constantly looking to fine tune things and when you got thousands of field testers out there and a few of them come back and say you thought about this you think we'd be pretty arrogant not to listen so that's we grow that way yeah yeah I think it's that's very important to take the feedback from your customers and your field testers and put that into the next evolution of the product and that's that's exactly area that's like that's stuff that we do all the time you know we want to hear. |
5:21.5 | Some some minute detail or something big and then we'll talk to Aaron and Eric and the design team and we kind of all work on the design team here with. |
5:31.5 | And that's exactly right and that's kind of what's needed to evolve the product into the next best best iteration that you can offer. |
5:39.5 | And something else that I think we share with Kaffiru that probably isn't shared with many other companies not certainly bigger companies is you actually are out using your gear in a real environment and that's very much the same for us I mean you know I might have not been able to travel to the states in the last two years by certainly hasn't stopped me escaping to places and I had a couple of weeks into G. |
6:04.5 | Stan at the beginning of the year so minus 26 your gear you know I was taking a Kaffiru stuff I mean that Kaffiru day pack I've got goes everywhere with me and Dana actually gave me another one I never even bother using it because that thing just doesn't just my Mrs. wash is it and everything and it's still just hangs it just keeps on going why won't you die. |
