0:28.4	We're sitting in on the kickoff meeting for a new European Commission-funded project called Sparta.
0:33.8	This is a huge project with over 44 partners from 14 different countries focusing on cyber security in the EU.
0:41.9	And why cybersecurity?
0:44.1	Consider these facts.

0:47.4	And these are from the European Commission, by the way.
0:50.4	Ransomware attacks have increased threefold between 2015 and 2017.
0:57.1	And what is a ransomware attack?
0:59.2	This is when the bad guy gets a hold of your data, steals it, or encrypts it, and holds it hostage until you pay.
1:08.9	Yes, you have to pay to get your own data back.
1:12.3	This really happens.
1:14.0	And it's happening more every day.
1:16.8	Fact two, the economic impact of cybercrime has risen fivefold since 2013.

1:29.0	87% of Europeans see cybercrime as an important challenge for EU's internal security.
