Hello and welcome to the Clarks World magazine podcast for October 2009, issue number 37.

My name is Kate Baker and I'll serve as both your humbled host and narrator.

I've been reading short stories into a microphone for about five years

now, and I'm constantly amazed at the caliber of authors and the current marketplace. This

month's story is no exception.

Our featured podcast fiction for October comes from Kidge Johnson and is entitled

Spar.

Since her first sale in 1987, Kidge Johnson has sold dozens of short stories to markets,

including Analog, Asimov, F&SF, and most recently a little place called Clark's World.

She was also nominated for both a Nebula and a Hugo award this year for her short story entitled

26 Monkeys, also the Abyss. The piece I'm about to narrate for you now is no

exception to her talent. Yet with all this deserved praise comes a

disclaimer. Explicit non-gratuitous adult themes herein. To those of you who

object to language or shy away from difficult adult topics, this may not be the podcast for you.
