Summary

F1 travelled to Spain for Round 10 of the 2024 World Championship, and it was a race in Barcelona that told a strangely familar tale. Max Verstappen took the lead and early control of the race but had to hold on by just two seconds at the finish line as Lando Norris’s McLaren chased down the Red Bull at the end of the race, but just came up short.  Jake Boxall-Legge and Filip Cleeren join Bryn Lucas on the Autosport Podcast to ask whether Max Verstappen’s flawless execution won him the race, or whether McLaren’s bold strategy and Norris’ poor start lost it for them. The trio also breakdown the chasing pack, with tension in the Ferrari camp as Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc argue post-race over their racecraft, where Mercedes fit in after a podium for Lewis Hamilton, and the why Aston Martin and RB struggled with new upgrade packages. then has to hold off a resurgent Lando Norris before taking the victory. Ah yes, we've seen it before,

victory, finishing just over two seconds ahead of Lando Norris, who looked very,

very strong out there. Third and fourth, it was the two Mercedes. That's right. Louis Hamilton

0:44.1

led George Russell home ahead of the two Ferraris in fifth and sixth. Leclair, ahead of his

teammate's sights. Piastri came home seventh. Sergio Perez, yes, in eighth, a great result for him.

0:56.6

And Gasly and Ock on the two Alpines, getting in the points, a great result for Alpine, taking home three

for the constructors. Then it was the Hass of Holcomberg, the Aston Martin for Fernando Alonso, not a great

1:08.7

result for the Spaniard, Joe Gwanyu, Lance Stroll, Ricardo Bottas, Magnuson, Albon, Sonoda and Logan Sargent making up the last place.

1:18.8

Well, joining me to make sense of everything we've witnessed.

1:21.6

I'm delighted to welcome back Jake Boxaleg, aka JBL.

1:25.4

And there in Barcelona, it's essentially his home Grand Prix, the Belgian.

1:29.8

That's right.

1:30.5

Phil Claren is also with us.

1:32.3

Jents, how are we doing?

1:33.8

Yeah, I'm pretty good, thank you.

1:36.4

I think, you know, expectations are always sort of iffy when it comes to the Spanish Grand Prix.

1:43.1

I didn't think it was the worst Spanish Grand Prix we've ever had,

1:46.4

which we'll get into in a bit.
