On this episode of our Spanish Civil War interview series, I was joined by Jess McIver, a PhD researcher

to discuss the portrayal of women fighters during the Spanish Civil War.

One of the really interesting pieces of the story of the Civil War is how it interacted

with the views of the different groups around

what they felt Spanish society was and should be.

The presence of women within militia units early in the conflict gave this ideological disagreement a greater urgency and focus.
