Jane is the author of a new book on Gerda Tarot,

the legendary war photographer who fled Nazi Germany, met Robert Kappa in Paris,

and then the two of them went off to document the human impact of the war.

In fact, as Jane explains, Gerda gave her life to this cause as she became the first woman war photojournalists to die on the

front line of conflict. So here is the brilliant Jane Ragoiska on the Spanish Civil War

Good to hear. Well, I'm in the United States and it is incredibly rainy and overcast so I can only say I'm jealous of your good weather.

Now we are approaching well many anniversaries but the anniversary of the Spanish

Civil War at the moment so we want to get you on to talk about perhaps one of the Spanish Civil War at the moment. So we want to get you on to talk about perhaps one of the most famous couples,

the most iconic couples in the history of photography, who changed war photography

forever with shots like the falling soldier

that highlighted the emotion and humanity or indeed inhumanity of war.
