How to grow spaghetti squash on a trellis? Interesting topic. I know. I've grown spaghetti squash in soil and I've also grown it in my tower garden which is a hydroponic vertical garden and that was interesting because I put it on the low low side of the tower and it just spread all over the ground and I had to go hunting for my spaghetti squash which was super fun and I actually grew amazing beautiful

tasty spaghetti squash but I couldn't help but wonder,

would this have been better to grow on a trellis?

I think the answer is yes, personally. So today we'll talk about how to do that if you're unfamiliar with growing squash on a trellis well that's what this podcast is here for

So first of all why would we grow something like spaghetti squash on a trellis?

Trellises in general help to keep plants off the ground. This helps keep bugs, mold, and other harmful things off of plants, but it also spreads out the foliage and lets a plant get exposed to more sun.

So the best thing about trolises really is that they help you grow a vegetable that's huge like spaghetti squash

in a more limited amount of space instead of having it sprawl horizontally all over the ground.

Fortunately, spaghetti squash can benefit significantly from being grown on a trellis.

That is because it grows like a vine and it can attach itself to rails, so obviously trellises would be a good fit for that. So what do we need?

First, you obviously need some kind of trellis. If you go to my website and you just type in trellis in the search bar, you'll get a tomato trellis article that has 53 different plans.

Spaghetti squash trellises can be designed in a very similar manner.

So you could consider that the same exact plan for spaghetti squash

or squash trellises. Then you'll need topsoil, some sort of manure or compost

basically just soil to grow the plant in, cotton cloth rags, three to four inch pots,

plastic shrink wrap, and a sharp knife.

So first thing you need to do, grow your spaghetti squash seedlings indoors. They will take better. You'll get a jump start on the growing season.

I would just start the seeds in three to four inch pots and just make sure that you monitor them so they don't stretch out searching for

sun and they are extremely healthy. Step two is to buy or build a trellis

again I would recommend doing a just some sort of flat vertical trellis that has a lattice pattern so you can train the plant through it and so the vines will grow and attach well.

Spaghetti squash being a heavier fruit, you just need a trellis that can hold that weight.
