Behind the Black, Bob Zimmerman is here to update us on Gilmore's Airis Rocket.

Bob, Gilmore and Eris, what is the mission?

Good evening, John.

This is a rocket startup based entirely in Australia.

It's its first rocket Australian company, and the Airis rocket is their rocket.

They're trying to launch, and they've been trying to get permits to launch out of their own

spaceport on the eastern coast of Australia now for about three years, and they finally

got a launch license, finally, and they had scheduled to launch this week. The first day, they had a scrubbed account for what they said was some ground equipment

issues.

The second day, during the launch, before they started fueling the rocket, though, an

inadvertent command went to the rocket that triggered the release of the rocket's payload farings.

These are the things with the shroud that surround the payload at the top, kind of like alligator

claws, and they come off and are released when you get out of the atmosphere.

They're not supposed to come off when the rocket sitting on the pad.

They came off.

And so they were fortunate. They pointed out that no one was hurt, that the fuel hadn't

been loaded yet, so there was no damage to the rocket or pad.

But to launch again, they're not going to be able to get a launch off in this launch

window, which ends at the end of this month.
