There's a point in my life where I don't know if you know I was trying to finish my PhD

and I've been working at it for four years and we just started rehearsing a band.

I'd always been in bands, I'd always been playing but we started rehearsing quite seriously

this group which was going to be called Queen.

So I went off for 30 years and played music but during that 30 years I never really lost

the sight of astronomy and astrophysics as it became and I found that the fact that I was a scientist

was actually always helpful to me in being a musician.

That's Brian May, the renowned guitarist and founding member of the Rotband Queen.

I spoke with him a few months after Queen's 50th anniversary and at a time when he's long

since finished that PhD.

He's now working with NASA on several projects including employing yet another of his skills

in 3D imaging to take spectacular pictures of Pluto and its moons.

This is a real thrill for me because you're so many people at once and I'm so impressed

with that.

Are you impressed by how many things you do?

Usually people aren't impressed by their own magnificence.

My wife isn't very impressed because you're always damn well doing something and you never

sit down and you never have time to breathe.

She's right.
