Arabian's offices were a quarter

mile from mission control in one of the bland blockhouse-like structures where people like Ed Smiley worked. However,

Arabian was not at the periphery of things. He and his staff were equipped with much the same

monitor screens as the men who worked in mission control. They listened in on the same air-to-ground

loops and they tracked the same data streaming back from the spacecraft.
