Hello and welcome. This is Michael Annis, and you're listening to Episode 272 of the Space Rocket History podcast. And now, Apollo 13, Free Return, Part 2. Continuing from the previous episode, Jim Lovell was attempting to perform a fine alignment of the two docked spacecraft in preparation for the burn that would put Aquarius and Odyssey on a free return trajectory.

When Lovell looked out his window, however, he saw not only the target stars he needed to see to make his alignment but also thousands of bright glowing false stars in the debris surrounding the spacecraft finding the stars he was looking for was almost impossible
