I've always struggled a bit with gift giving and not just the active giving gifts myself,

but also the active receiving gifts that I may or may not have asked for.

For me, there's always been a lapse in my brain when it comes to coming up with a gift that somebody will absolutely love,

because once you reach a certain age, making a Christmas list just seems to be a lot.

In the past few years, I could only really come up with two gifts that I was proud to give at the time.

The first was a bathrobe that I gave to my wife after a vacation that we took.

For about a year, she claimed it to be the best gift I'd ever given her,

and I felt a sense of pride whenever I'd see it being used.

Additionally, last Christmas, I gave her a trademark love island water bottle,

the same water bottle that the entire cast uses throughout every episode to hydrate within the villa.

Love Island is a show that very much helped us through quarantine,

breaking up the monotony of the day while also allowing us to zone out

while looking at good looking people and a good looking tropical location.

The gift was on brand, topical, and best of all, pretty inexpensive.

But every year I find myself doing something that I'm not really all that proud of.

I seek out gift guides on trusted websites and hopes of finding something that tickles your fancy,

but sometimes gift guides can kind of spiral out of control pretty quickly.

Case in point, the absolutely ridiculous gift guide put out every year

by Gwyneth Paltrow's Wellness Company Goop.

Last year, I ran through several gifts from their gift guide,

most of which require you to take out a second mortgage on your home or even more.
