Today we have a friend of the show, somebody I actually look up to,

when I got first hired by CNN, it wasn't a whole bunch of black folk over there.

It wasn't a whole bunch of black men.

And honestly, to say it wasn't a whole bunch of people who embraced their blackness like Charles Blow.

I don't think I've ever told you this but I always looked up to you.

I know you're not that old, but thank you.

Thank you for everything that you've meant to young people coming along in TV. Charles, you deserve that.

But we have Charles Moore on the show today and you're a friend of the show so we'll skip the usual question and get right into your new project South to Black Power for people who may have forgotten or haven't had a chance to read your book where you talk about this which I have a couple of times.

What South to Black Power about and what is what is it about

this idea of reverse migration that has consumed you?

Because I was like, man, this is kind of what Charles does now consumed you the past few years.

Well I see the incredible possibilities of state power by having large percentages of black people in particular states.

You know, I always say this at the end of the Civil War three southern states with majority

black Louisiana, Mississippi and South Carolina. Three other southern states were within eight percentage points of being

majority black.

And that meant that during reconstruction,

black people made a tremendous amount of progress.

They sent scores of people to state houses.

Mississippi gave us our two first two black senators and they did that because they have a
