Summary

A source familiar with the whip operation of the House progressive caucus tells CNN that their number of “no” votes remains “solid” despite House Speaker Nancy Pelosi working to flip their votes. Democratic leaders are struggling to strike a deal with progressives, who have said they won’t vote for the Senate-passed infrastructure bill before reaching a deal on a spending package. Democratic Rep. Pramila Jayapal is the chair of the head of the House progressive caucus. She joins AC360 to give an update on negotiations and says she doesn’t think Speaker Pelosi will bring a vote to the floor because “there’s just not the votes there.” Plus, the FBI visited the home of Brian Laundrie again as the police continue to search for him. The family attorney told CNN the FBI was there to collect items to help in the search for Gabby Petito’s fiancé. Lenny DePaul is a former commander for the U.S. Marshals Service Regional Fugitive Task Force. He tells Anderson Cooper authorities are “leaving no stones unturned.”   Airdate: September 30, 2021   Guests: Rep. Good evening. We could be just an hour away from a vote in the House of Representatives that will

0:05.0

pave the way for Democratic lawmakers to deliver on many of the promises that got them and the

0:09.6

president elected or we might not. The whole thing could crater. It is truly made it by minute

0:14.9

at this time. We'll be joined tonight by one of the key players, Congresswoman,

0:18.0

Pramila Jaya Paul. She and her progressive caucus members certainly made those promises to make

0:21.9

raising kids more affordable to allow Medicare to negotiate lower prices on prescription drugs to

0:26.8

make paid family leave the law of the land. It's all contained in a social spending and green

0:31.3

energy bill that according with the agree with the politics or not, I should say would map out the

0:36.4

most significant expansion of social benefits since Medicare. Now what happens in the next hour or

0:41.4

so could pave the way for that or it could scuttle those programs, hurt the people who would benefit

0:46.4

from them. Perhaps crippled the Biden presidency and leave Democrats deeply vulnerable in next

0:51.4

year's midterm elections. That is all on the line tonight. Because the House gets ready to vote on

0:56.3

a separate bipartisan infrastructure bill already passed by the Senate. Moderate Democrats say it

1:01.2

must pass before taking up the social spending bill. Progressive Democrats say they won't vote for

1:06.3

it without commitments on social spending. And to moderate Democratic senators Joe Manchin and

1:11.6

Kiersten Sinema are the key figures who've been holding things up. Dealing with them has been a

1:16.0

challenge for the president not to mention a puzzlement for some fellow Democrats and now House

1:19.7

Speaker Pelosi who earlier today described this stage in the negotiations and as I quote

1:25.7

constant invigoration and quote she seems determined to bring them to a close whether or not she

1:30.7

succeeds. That of course is anyone's guess. Congresswoman Primalajaya Paul as we mentioned chairs

1:35.1

the Congressional Progressive Caucus. She's been keeping up pressure from her wing and the party.

1:39.5

She joins us now. Congresswoman could have you on again. Where do things stand right now with the
