As far as I know, there has never been an independent expert examination of voting system

source code in the United States, which is really surprising, given the importance of it and the impact that it has.

So when a large company say Bank of America buys a new payroll program,

then they insist on having the source code. And the vendor says, well, that's proprietary.

If it gets out, then our competitors might take unfair advantage of us.

And so what they do is make the bank sign a non-disclosure agreement and say,

we'll keep the source code and as long as your company is still in

business when we need maintenance or modifications I mean after all Congress

is going to change the tax rates the program is going to require

modification as long as your company is still in business will come to you for the modifications.

state. North Carolina specifically provides in their law that any political party can examine that source code.

And so the Libertarian Party claimed that right and said, yes yes we would like to examine the source code for the

2020 election and so they hired a computer

expert whom I know professionally, was a retired computer science professor, and then

ask the State Board of Elections in North Carolina to allow their

expert to examine the source code.
