Happy anniversary. Today is the 40th anniversary. So I don't remember it. I was only one, but it's the 40th anniversary of one of the most important trades in Mets history.

They got Gary Carter from the Montreal Expos 40 years ago today, and certainly turned out to be one of the final pieces of the 1986 World Championship New York Mets.

Apparently, MLB has a little known rule in the CBA that requires a player to let the league know prior to July 31st that they're going to change their number.

And since Juan Soto is going to a new team, and that number is occupied, because that's

the key.

If the number wasn't occupied, it wouldn't be a thing.

Like if the Yankees signed Christian Walker, no one's wearing 53, no big deal.
