Maybe, but I'm not sure. I don't know if it's a technical term. It might just be something my mother made up.

But it's a therapeutic apology is when someone is angry at you about something. And you sort of feel like whatever it is that you did is somewhat justifiable, but also you feel like

the thing that they're angry about is not the point. And so you apologize for either part

or all of what they're angry about. But the purpose of the apology is to get to a larger issue.
