They said, you sure you want to use I'm a believer? Don't you think that people are going to be more like they're going to think more about the monkeys than they would Neil diamond and I said oh fellas let me just tell you this and I turned to some young person and I was like hey you know that song I'm a believer and then she was like yeah, I was like, hey, you know that song? I'm a believer.

And then she was like, yeah.

And I was like, yeah, where do you know it from?

She's like, oh to you by the Directors Guild of America.

In this episode, two down-on-the-luck performers form a successful tribute band,

and director Craig Brewer's musical drama, Song-sung Blue. Based on a true story, the film follows

Mike and Claire Sardina, a Milwaukee couple who formed the Neil Diamond tribute act, Lightning and

Thunder. Riding the highs and lows of success,

the couple prove it's never too late to find love and follow your dreams.

In addition to Song Sung Blue, Brewer's other directorial credits include the feature films,

Coming to America, Dolomite is My Name, Footloose, Black Snake Mone, and Hustle and Flow,

and episodes of the series Empire, Terriers, and The Shield.

Following a screening of the film at the DGA Theater in Los Angeles, Brewer spoke with

director Taylor Hackford about filming Song Song Song Blue.
