Investigators would soon uncover that Vicky, the daughter of a state senator, and her husband, the son of a bishop, were in the middle of a divorce.

Two powerful families were swept into the drama that played out inside a South Carolina courtroom.

This is the Court TV Podcast. These were two very prominent families that kind of joined together when Stephen Beckham married Vicky Lander.

And I'm not sure that anybody in Newberry

wouldn't have known these people.

She was in the car dead.

It didn't look like an automobile accident.

Look like a homicide.

There was no way that the action itself could have caused it based on the minimal amount of impact.

I was thinking about how I was going to do this, you know.

There's a murder.

There's six months and rock and Rome.

There was a point where the cops said that this was an almost perfect crime

because they had nothing to go on. The town of Newberry, South Carolina is reminiscent of the fictional locations found in William Faulkner's stories with a mix of Gothic, Victorian, and Antibellum styles of architecture.

It is unmistakably southern, seemingly locked in a bygone era.
