while cutting a ribbon at the opening ceremony of a leisure centre?

Cinema, perhaps.

Nursery for children?

No.

Food bank.

Got photographed also, and we hadn't seen this by the time we opened the program yesterday. Tucking into a delicious buffet, filling his face with cherry bakewells.

Now, don't get me wrong, I enjoy cherry bakewell as much as the next man. But I probably wouldn't

think it appropriate to be tucking into them with enthusiasm at the opening of the food bank.

But we segue effortlessly from the Conservative leader of Dartford Council to the Conservative MP

for Ashfield in Nottinghamshire, who stood up in the House of Commons yesterday, to insult

everybody who's phoned this radio station over the last few months, describing to you

in often horrible detail.

And I think for many people humiliating detail,

we do our level best to make sure or to reassure or to remind people

that they need feel no and should feel no shame or embarrassment.

But of course, the media environment at the last 30 years has demonised

poverty, demonised struggle and suffering in the most hideous and deliberate of ways.
