Summary
The old house looked perfect when Caitlin’s family moved in. Big rooms. Character. Quiet streets. The kind of place that feels comforting during the day.
At night was different.
The children became afraid of the upstairs almost immediately, though nobody could fully explain why. Strange sounds moved through the bedrooms when no one was there. Toys seemed to shift on their own. And the uneasy feeling in the house became so normal that the kids stopped trying to sleep in their own rooms altogether.
But the moment that stayed with Caitlin happened long after everyone had gathered downstairs for the night. It began with the sound of something rolling above them in the darkness. Then came the staircase. And whatever reached the bottom didn’t stop there.
