Summary

They went to bed upset with each other—no resolution, no final word, just the kind of unfinished tension that hangs in the air long after the lights go out. Maybe that’s why he woke up the way he did.

Because sometime in the middle of the night, he became aware of their bedroom… without ever opening his eyes. The moonlight cut across the room in a dim, cold-blue wash, and he could see everything—every shadow, every shape—despite being completely unable to move. And something else could see him too.

He felt it before he could understand it: a presence, slow and deliberate, drifting toward the bed as if checking whether he was awake. It came close—close enough to feel—but never touched him. Never breathed. Never stepped. Just approached.

Something had been in the room with them.
