Hello, I'm Stuart McConey and welcome to a new series of ramblings.

In this series, we are going to take in the skylines of some great British cities on winter walks for short winter days.

And because the winter days are short,

all these walks are easily achievable from the heart of

cities like Manchester, Belfast, Birmingham and Cardiff but today we begin in Bath. I didn't know Bath

at all until a couple of years ago till I came researching a book and since then have fallen completely

in love with it as so many people have before. Today's walk then, I'm delighted to say, is a ridge walk of about six miles

that takes advantage of the fact that Bath sits on a topological quirk.

It sits in a bowl of seven hills, a bit like Rome,

and this walk will give us fantastic views of what has to be one of the most beautiful cities in England,

the Regency and Georgian Splendor of Bath.
