Mogadishu, al-Shabaab insurgents have seized the town of Tardo in Somalia's central Iran region

and are pressing on with advance that has already displaced thousands.

Tardo, Reuters says, a key crossroads linking larger urban centers fell on Sunday just passed.

After the Al-Qaeda Allied fighters drove out government-allied clan fighters, al-Shabaab has waged an insurgency in Somalia since 2007, explains Reuters.
