Welcome into Tom Carlin's Patriots Talk podcast, Phil Perry alongside, and the Patriots

and the rest of the NFL, a less than a month away from the draft.

Now, it's not as breathless as it's been the last few years here in New England because

the Patriots are a better team than they've been.

And they're not picking on the top 10.

They do have the 31st overall pick, but still is a building team that has its foundation,

but needs to continue to build its framework, 20 of places to get better.

Phil, you are our draft expert, a resident draft expert, but I'd put you up against anybody

nationally to be goddamn honest about it.

How's this draft overall before we get into Patriots needs and the respective positions?

It's not loaded with stars, but I think it is loaded with starters.

So if you're in the top seven this year, excuse me, congratulations.

Like you could get a real game-changing kind of piece.

Outside of that, Tom, I'm not sure you'd find a ton of evaluators who have, you know,

more than 12, and even that number might be a little high in terms of like true first round

types of grades, you know, like a really, a really good class you might get somewhere in the high teens.

This just isn't one of those classes, but I think the depth is really good. And I think especially,

Tom, at premium positions, and this is, will pertain to the Patriots, the edge is a deep spot.

Let's hit it. I think there are some quality tackles here.

I think there's some quality receivers in the tight end class is super deep this year. So all positions of need you could argue for the Patriots. I'm sorry. I didn't mean to jump in, but I was going to say edges where we'll start. Look at the Patriot situation right now. Caleb on Chase on has gone elsewhere, who they have in house. Basically, Phil. Harold Landry and Draymont Jones are your lead dogs.
