0:00.0	Hey guys, welcome to the Bill Barnwell show. I am Bill Barnwell. Today, I have a solo show for the new year on a topic that is not exactly thrilling NFL fans. But something we have to discuss and something I think
0:21.9	we can have an interesting conversation about.
0:24.1	It's a little different than what I've heard elsewhere.
0:26.5	And that is on the topic of refereeing.
0:29.4	And there was no joy in refereeing, right?
0:33.7	We never talk about how great the refs are.
0:35.6	There's never a conversation about how well a game
0:37.8	is being called it's always about what happens when stuff goes wrong when there's a game that is
0:43.2	being ruined by officials calling 20 penalties or a game like the cowboys lions contest from
0:49.4	saturday night where if we're being honest it certainly looks like a call was made that was absolutely
0:56.6	incorrect that should not have been called that cost the Detroit Lions a win on the road
1:01.7	against a very good Cowboys team on national television and nobody wants that the NFL does
1:07.1	not want that officials don't want that I know it's easy to believe that the NFL wants to rig games for the Cowboys.
1:13.3	And the point other people have made that rings true to me is, frankly, if the NFL wanted to read games for the Cowboys, they would be a lot more successful over the past 20 years than they have been in reality.
1:25.4	So I don't want to have that conversation because I
1:28.9	think it's very unrealistic. It's naive. Frankly, I think that people who listen to the show
1:33.7	are a lot smarter than that and deserve a lot smarter conversation about refereeing.
1:37.3	So what we're going to do is talk about why I think referees make mistakes. And then
1:42.9	we're going to talk about how we can fix some of the major problems.
1:45.7	I have five ideas from changes that can be made that are not going to be significant. I guess one of them is pretty significant, I will say.
1:52.5	But changes that are all possible, that are all doable, that will actually improve the quality of refereeing and the quality of the games entertainment.
