I have this memory from my early 20s. It was a beautiful summer weekend, it's

Friday afternoon, and I've got plans to go climbing in my partner bales. And I

remember sitting at home being kind of grumpy about it all, and I was like, I

want to go climbing. So at seven o'clock, I get in the car and I drive out to

index, which is my favorite crag. It's like an hour outside of Seattle. And I

decided I'm going to go aid solo this route, it's multi-pitch route. And if

you're climbing, you know that aid climbing can be a tedious process. It's super

gear reliant, it's slow. It's not like taking a quick little run or a

jump before sunset. It wasn't necessarily reckless or dangerous, but it was, if

you look back on it, a little weird, right? Like out of all the things a 21

year old on a Friday night in Seattle could be doing, going and thrashing up
