One of the things that I wish people really understood about lobbying is that lobbying is not about money.

Lobbing is all about connection and relationship building.

And so the more connected you are to elected officials, the more influence you can have with them when they're making decisions.

And so the suffragettes used to have cards where they had all the information about the legislator before they would lobby and they would learn who those people were, who their families were.

And so I would say, you know, all the background about them and I did the same thing.

I would introduce myself to elected officials. I called them on the phone to ask them for meetings.

And I'd say, you know, I noticed you were on the board of Boys and Girls Club.

I used to go there when I was a kid at such a great organization.

And then all of a sudden, I'm not the lobbyist who's trying to, you know, get this done.

I'm actually a person who's connecting with them.
