Surgeon General Vivick Murphy published an op-ed in the New York Times on Monday, saying that social media is associated

with significant mental health harms for adolescents and calling on Congress to require warning

labels similar to those used on cigarettes and alcohol.

A Pew Research Survey found 95% of teens ages 13 to 17 used social media with 35% saying they use it almost constantly.

Dr. Murphy says a warning label is just a small step in the needed shift in social media culture.
