The deal for me is not the player. it's not the contract, it's not the

potential impact that Landon Collins may or may not have on this Redskins defense or team.

Safety has never been the difference in a non-playoff team becoming a serious contender.

The position, no matter how great the player is, isn't one that leads you to a Super Bowl.

Ed Reed, in recent vintage, of great Hall of Fame type of safeties, didn't do it on his own.

He had Ray Ray, he had Suggs, he had great coaching, he had a great team culture.

Landon Collins is a very good player, a blue chip player, more on the blue chip in a bit.

Forget what kind of safety he is, all right, in the box, out of the box.

He's a baller. He can and will help. He's not, however, going to turn this team into a playoff contender on his own.

He's not going to change the way the team is owned or operated.

But the headline is not Landon Collins.
