Hey there from CNN. I'm David Rind with the five things you need to know for Monday,

February 23rd. A bomb cyclone is slamming the northeast with near hurricane force wind gusts

and heavy snowfall. More than 20 inches has been reported in some parts. 40 million people are

under blizzard warnings as the storm triggers widespread power outages and travel

disruptions. CNN's lead meteorologist Brandon Miller is here. Brandon, the snow is still falling

outside my window here in New Jersey. What are we looking at, though? The term snow-ocane is really

an appropriate name for this storm because the winds are like what we get with the hurricane.

We've seen wind gusts over 50 miles per hour spread for over 700 miles

from Virginia to Maine. But of course the obvious difference, this storm is dumping feet of snow,

with rates of 2 to 3 inches per hour. At least four states have seen totals top 2 feet. And Philly

in New York City, their biggest snow falls in at least a decade. Now, the snow should begin

tapering off this afternoon from south to north and be pushing off shore

New England by sunset.

But after a break on Tuesday, look out for more flakes flying on Wednesday, but thankfully,

just an inch or two.
