Summary
The Athletic's Charlie Eccleshare and James Maw join Danny Kelly to reflect on a weekend when Spurs didn't actually play football.
Charlie discusses the weather in Burnley and the American couple who made the trip all the way from Dallas to watch a game that never took place.
They also look at the lessons learned from the embarrassing defeat to NS Mura. What will Conte have taken from that game? And was it the last chance for some of the current squad to prove their worth to the new manager?
Plus, they preview the match with Brentford on Thursday night.

| 0:02.7 | Hello, I'm Danyke. Hello, I'm Danny Kelly and this is The View from the Lane, the Athletics, Tottenham, Hotspur podcast. Welcome one. Welcome all. I'm joined today by the Athletics, Charlie Echoshire and James Moore. We've got no game to look back on, for obvious reasons, but still plenty to discuss. I'm going to start with Charlie, of course, made the dreary journey up to the lovely town of Burnley on Sunday, but didn't see a football match. How bad was it? I mean, I'm amazed. Because I'm a fan of the NFL, well, they literally, they won't cancel a game unless you get a hurricane. |
| 0:54.8 | I was amazed the Premier League game got called on. |
| 0:56.7 | Was that, wasn't that bad, Charlie? |
| 0:58.4 | It was pretty bad. |
| 0:59.5 | I mean, I never for a moment thought, even so I first got to Preston and then from there to Burnley. |
| 1:08.0 | It was, it was snowing pretty badly, but, you know, you just think, well, it's a Premier League game. |
| 1:13.4 | Premier League games don't get called off for this sort of thing, or at least it happens very, |
| 1:17.2 | very rarely, and normally when it has happened ahead of time. But then I was just getting messages |
| 1:22.4 | being like, this could actually get called off. And I was like, I couldn't believe it, especially |
| 1:26.6 | it had taken so long to get there. |
| 1:29.0 | And then getting to the stadium, it was like pretty icy and treacherous on foot. |
| 1:35.3 | And the snow was pretty heavy. |
| 1:37.3 | And then I got into the press seats probably a few minutes before one, which was when the teams were going to drop. |
| 1:44.7 | And you could see there are all these guys out there trying to clear away the snow, but |
| 1:49.3 | it was just coming down quicker than they'd get rid of it and then it would just come out |
| 1:54.0 | and fill the space where they'd been, basically. But teams came out and then about 10 past |
| 1:59.2 | one got the news. And yeah yeah it was just the kind of situation |
| 2:03.3 | where you're obviously frustrated everyone's frustrated but you know the managers were consulted |
| 2:09.4 | they were in agreement the referee clearly thought it couldn't go ahead and it was a bit of a joke |
| 2:14.2 | outside I mean it was just you couldn't see a thing. People were slipping and sliding. |
| 2:18.0 | So I think, you know, it's always for the safety of the fans more than the pitch. And I think that was the case in this game. Bollocks. Yeah. Get some salt. Get some salt. Can I just say, you say everyone was disappointed, Charles. Hello, everybody, by the way. You say everybody disappointed Charlie, but I think one team and one manager was more disappointed than the other. |
