You know, truth be told began five years ago with three people in a room, actually my producer Christina Kim's couch,

and together along with my editor, Sondia Dirk's, we asked each other, what kind of show do we

need right now?

The first thing we said was a place where we could go deep into the lives of black and brown people in a way that we weren't seeing anywhere else.

We were just at the cusp of having a global conversation about issues like grief

and mental health, and we wanted a place where we could prioritize the mental health of black

and brown people. But we didn't just take our feelings into account. You told us what

you want it too. My favorite thing to say is that truth be told is like the friend you call

or text after a long day, the one who gets you, and that idea came

from you. We held these great get-togethers in places like San Francisco and Oakland, and you

shared with us that you wanted a place where you could live. Francisco and

most of all feel seen

closer to explore topics that get us all closer to being whole.

So in 2019 we kicked off the show with my grandma who answered the timeless question,

how to feel joy when the world is burning.
