Just recently I had the great pleasure of joining in on a Zoom meeting in which my brother

Gary received a community service award, and I have to tell you, he's the kind of guy that

is well deserving of it. He goes above and beyond for everyone. Now, we were each asked

to introduce ourselves and to describe our favorite place in nature.

And when it was my turn, I commented that my favorite place was to sit on the remnants of an

old dam that stood a bit upstream from my parents' old house in Thomsonville, New York. That's in the

Catskill Mountains. Anyway, getting to the dam involved walking through the woods for a distance

and then climbing down the cliff face to get to the dam, and you could only get to it when the water level was low.

Now, I should point out it wasn't nearly as dangerous as it may sound, but I just love sitting on that dam, and that's because I was surrounded by nature.

You know, the water is just flowing around, there are cliffs to one side.

It was incredibly peaceful.

Occasions I'd wander through the woods to get there, I would wonder if I could actually

survive alone in nature all by myself, you know, kind of a survivor-type situation.

And during my teenage years, I was foolish enough to think that I could,

but now, decades later, I am doubtful I would have survived.
