Summary

Welcome to the "Saturday Morning Golf Stat" from the Hack it Out Golf Podcast. Ah, the dread half-wedge. In this episode, Lou asks Mark and Greg about the distance at which a scratch, 10, and 20 index golfer breaks even for Strokes Gained from 50 yards in the fairway. What is the baseline for a good shot for those skills? And how can we all improve those touch shots?

Each of these will be a mini-episode (10-15 minutes long) about an interesting golf stat. We will discuss what you can learn, and most importantly, how you can apply this on the golf course to lower your scores and lower your handicap.

Listen on your drive to the golf course or over your Saturday morning coffee!

Data is sourced from Arccos Golf. They have over 1 BILLION shots in their database.

Saturday stat, we're going live. What have you got for us, Lou? I can't remember who won the last one. It's been so long. I think I was stopping your run, though. I think you were on a trot at that point, wouldn't you? I was on my horse. Yep. The gap. What have you got, Lou? This is a good one. This is about everyone's favorite topic, partial wed shots. So a 50-yard shot. These are the ones that strike fear into

0:24.0

the hearts of us normal golfers from what I read online. And I guess the premise of this one is

0:31.6

it's about evaluating shot quality, how good of a shot it is. And way I think of this is when you're 50 yards

0:41.0

away in the fairway, how close do you need to hit it to break even on strokes gain? So you gain

0:50.0

zero strokes. And anything inside that gain strokes. So how close do you need to hit it to gain

0:54.8

zero strokes? And we're going to do this for a zero index, a 10 index, and a 20 index. So how close

1:02.9

from 50 yards would you need to hit it to break even on strokes gained? A zero, a 10, and a 20, did you say? Yeah, a scratch, a 10 and a 20. So in the proximity, we'll be in feet. Yeah. What's the proximity in feet? How close you need to hit it? 50 hours in the fairway? From the fairway, yep. How close do you need to hit it to break even on strokes gained? This is going to be an eye-opening one.

1:28.3

It's going to be good.
