Summary

Welcome to the "Saturday Morning Golf Stat" from the Hack it Out Golf Podcast. Today's episode: good golfers, simple shot. How often will a 5-index player get up and down from 75 yards in the fairway? At the other extreme, how often will it take him 4 or more shots to hole out? Lou puts this question to Mark and Greg, and the answer may well shock you as well. Learning to avoid the big numbers continues to be the theme of effective scoring.

Each of these will be a mini-episode (10-15 minutes long) about an interesting golf stat. We will discuss what you can learn, and most importantly, how you can apply this on the golf course to lower your scores and lower your handicap.

Listen on your drive to the golf course or over your Saturday morning coffee!

Data is sourced from Arccos Golf. They have over 1 BILLION shots in their database.

Saturday stat time, Lou, are we living it? I guess we are because I don't know the question.

0:05.7

0:14.1

So we're going to add up, you know, how wrong you are and the one who is the least wrong is going to win this one.

This is not the best

0:21.5

of the three. So today we're talking about five index players from 75 yards in the fairway.

0:29.5

And what is the percent chance that they get the ball up and down from 75 yards in the

0:36.0

fairway? And then what is the percent chance that it takes them four or more shots to get the

0:43.8

ball in the hole from 75 yards in the fairway?

0:46.5

So that would be, you know, like knocking it on in three putting or it would be, you know,

0:50.6

missing the green, chipping it on and two putting.

0:52.9

That would be four shots. So what are the chances they get up and down from 75 yards in the fairway and what are the chances that it takes them four or more strokes to get the ball in the hole five index players so pretty good golf Not scratch, but also not 20 indexes.

1:13.7

I'm ready. Yeah, I'm ready. I don't remember who won last time? Gregi. Gregi. Gregi remembers

1:19.8

and Gregie won. Gregi. All right. So Greg, you get to go first. What are the chances that they

1:26.8

get up and down?

1:28.2

I'm going to go with just less than one in five at 16%.

1:31.8

16%. Okay. And Mark?

1:36.0

I'm 9%. Yeah, I'm being worried myself. Yeah.

1:40.5

Okay. And then Mark, you get to go first here. What are the chances of the time? Okay. And then Mark, you get to go first here. What are the chances? What percent of the time?

1:48.0

Is it going to take them four or more shots to get the ball in the hole?

1:52.3

29%.

1:53.5

29%. Okay. Gregi?

1:57.8

I'm setting a Saturday stat record for first time ever I've given the same answer, 16%.
