Summary

Welcome to the "Saturday Morning Golf Stat" from the Hack it Out Golf Podcast. We know that the traditional putts per round stat is very dependent on approach play: in general, the better your approach play, the more putts you are likely to have. But what about Strokes Gained:Putting? In this episode, Lou asks Greg and Mark what happens to a 10-index golfer's SG:Putting number on good approach rounds vs poor approach rounds, and then they have a lengthy conversation about what might cause the disparity.

Each of these will be a mini-episode (10-15 minutes long) about an interesting golf stat. We will discuss what you can learn, and most importantly, how you can apply this on the golf course to lower your scores and lower your handicap.

Listen on your drive to the golf course or over your Saturday morning coffee!

Saturday start time, here we go. Let's get into it. Saturday start, 10 index player,

0:07.4

ain't it great, any bad, then putting is the question I think, Lou explain.

0:12.5

Yeah, I'm going to explain this one and I'll probably have to explain it two or three times

0:15.7

for Mark and I'll talk really slowly and we'll go through it four different ways and I'll give

0:19.9

examples. I know Greg gets it right away, but Mark's not, here's what's going to happen. Mark's not going to understand. He's going to complain about the question. He's going to somehow, don't give away my rules already. He's going to guess his way to a win and then he's going to gloat about it. Like this is how this is going to out. You've got to set the table. Let me just hit my abacus buddy. So let's start before we before I ask a specific question,

0:43.6

here's the two general questions. And this is about 10 index players. When they hit the ball really well

0:49.7

with their irons, what do they average strokes gained with their putting?

0:54.6

And then the second question is when they hit the ball really poorly with their irons,

0:59.2

what do they average strokes gained per round with their putting?

1:03.5

So the specific-

1:04.1

10-index.

1:04.7

Yeah, for 10-index player.

1:06.4

And this strokes-gained is measured against 10 indexes.

1:09.2

So I'm not comparing a 10-index to a tour player or a scratch player. This is strokes gained is measured against 10 indexes. So I'm not comparing a 10 index to a tour player or

1:12.1

a scratch player. This is strokes gained against other 10 index players. So when they hit their irons

1:18.0

really well, and really well means they gain between three and four shots around with their iron play.

1:24.7

So they're striping their irons. What is their average strokes gained per round with their putting?

1:30.3

That's question number one.

1:32.2

So who won last time?

1:34.0

I don't remember.

1:35.0

Mark?

1:35.4

All right.
