Monday night edition of the pod here contuing a series we started a couple weeks ago that we're really looking forward to an interesting exercise ranking the NBA small fours also gotta finally talk about that jolilo

0:12.0

Oka for trade as well and hit the latest in news around the NBA sponsored today by ball and branch go to ball and branch

0:22.0

BOL and branch dot com promo code cap space to get fifty dollars off what I believe will be the most comfortable sheets you've ever owned

0:30.0

so let's get started with this Oka for trade at Danny what exactly were the particulars

0:35.0

so the trade itself was jolilo Oka for Nick Stauskis and the New York Nix 2019 second round pick because Philly owns just a bunch of nix picks second round picks to the Brooklyn Nets for Trevor Booker

0:50.0

Booker is actually all the players involved in this trade are expiring contracts jolilo Oka for had his fourth year player option or his fourth year team option to climb next

0:59.0

Stauskis will be restricted if they want to extend a qualifying offer and Trevor Booker is just expiring so you have all that and then the Nets also had to wave Sean Copatrick as a part of it

1:07.0

that's not technically piece of the trade but it was something that had to happen and it's interesting because what the Nets did was gamble to a point on their coaching staff and development as being the best way to utilize this expiring contract

1:24.0

yeah you hit on that aspect of it Danny that there is an opportunity cost for the Nets here and would you like to elaborate on that a little bit?

1:35.0

Sure so I the pieces up at real GM and what I way focused on because of course a lot of people are talking about the gambles and the just five of the gambles on Stauskis and on Oka for because those guys are talented they were recent lottery picks all that kind of stuff

1:47.0

what I think was was an under or appreciated part of this trade is that the Nets have a much smaller amount of 2018 cap space than they used to just because of justifiable decisions

1:57.0

but decisions they made to spend on guys like Alan Krab and Demarri Carroll and Timofay Moskov so one of the ideas that they had was okay instead of trying to extort a team out of because I think they're going to have somewhere between 12 and 15 million in space

2:12.0

instead of extorting a team at that time for it they could instead use Trevor Booker as a way of as a way in because the benefit of using Booker is that you can do the trade now

2:22.0

and Booker is conceded or is considered an asset by these teams that's a part of why the sixers made this trade so what you get for the other team is and this parallels to a point

2:32.0

them including perglopas in the Moskov Russell trade is you give them a little bit more value so they give you a better asset in return and this doesn't foreclose the possibility of them using that 2018 cap space to extort other teams

2:46.0

but it does foreclose the possibility of doing so before junior July you like to trade the Nets I think it's a worthwhile gamble for them

2:53.0

Okofur is talented and they need center help in the worst way without many other ways to do it because they don't have a high draft pick this coming year

3:03.0

the cap space they have is enough to do something but at least now they get to try him out

3:09.0

Booker as in a player on an expiring contract his value is dropping at the time there were other options I would have talked to teams that might be desperate to cut 2018 money

3:19.0

and the Stavskis gamble is fine I know I'm reasonably confident that you like Joe Harris better but you know you could see what you have in him

3:27.0

so I think this is this is fine but I do not my instinct is it's not the best they could have done with that overall asset

3:35.0

Yeah I think the Nets are uniquely situated to get something out of july look for because most teams are either trying to win
