Air France Flight 358, an Airbus A340, is nearing the completion of its flight

from Paris's Charles de Gaulle Airport to Toronto's Pearson International Airport.

The weather in Toronto is stormy and all 309 people on board are experiencing strong turbulence.

The plane touches down, but the passengers relief quickly turns to panic

as the plane slides off the end of the runway, crashes into a ravine, and catches fire.

Passengers on board are frantically trying to escape despite some ex-speed inaccessible due to the fire.

March 20, 2009.

Emirates Flight 407, an Airbus A340 with 275 people on board, is on a take-off role in Melbourne, Australia, bound for Dubai.

The plane reaches 168 miles per hour, and the captain calls for the first officer to rotate the plane to take off.

However, the plane's nose pitches up, the tail strikes the runway, and the plane fails to become airborne.

With only 3,400 feet of runway left, the captain takes control, pushes the throttle to maximum in an effort to get the plane off the ground.

Does he have enough space to take off? And what are these two incidents having common?
