Dr. Berg talks about why people are tired after eating salad and vegetables. Your microbes live on fiber, and giving them too much can overwhelm the friendly bacteria to the point, it's just too much food. You have to realize that they are in a situation in which they have to deal with all the food. It's not that they can eat what they want and let the rest go down the intestines. They have to deal with it and break it down - this is called fermentation. The thing to do is eat less and get your microbes used to digesting these fibers, then gradually increase it more and more. The goal is to consume large amounts so you can get your nutrients, but it's also important to handle the extraction as well.
