Hi, this is Dana Steven Slate's movie critic here with the Slate's spoiler special podcast on Greenberg, the new Noah Bombach film.

I was going to say comedy, but do we know if it's a comedy, John?

I don't think I laughed once, but I guess I actually don't think it is a comedy.

All right, we'll just call it the new Noah Bonbach film drama, something.

So here with me in the studio is John Swansberg.

Who's Slate's culture editor and who also went with me to see Greenberg last night.

And who differed with me, not super strongly, but we did differ on the movie, right?

I think that I tolerated it more than you did.

You liked it more than I did, definitely.

I believe your words walking out of it were I hated every minute of that. Did I say that?

I think you're right that I said that.

I don't know.

Now the next day I feel a little bit less hatred towards it.

There were moments in the movie that looking back on it I think were okay.

What I really didn't like, maybe a better way of putting it was I really disliked, maybe hated, spending two hours

in the company of the character of Greenberg, which I think is actually part of the point

of the movie.

So that's different than saying I hated the movie.

Well, let's walk through what the story is so people can see why he was either.

I agree that he's meant to be a guy that's very hard to be around.
