Emily Beck of the Huffington Post. I'm here with Anna Shamansky. Hello. I am not wearing my

Lima T-shirt, which I need to, I need to make a correction. It was not a Lima T-shirt. It was a

laureate t-shirt. Many thanks to my anthropologist colleague Miriam Kramer, who informed me that it is a

Loris and not a Lima.

Either way, I'm not wearing it.

We are going to talk about panders at some point in this show, hence the title.

But long before we talk about panders, we are going to talk about McKenzie Bezos and her billions and what

she's doing with them and the difference between charity and philanthropy. We are going to talk

about one of the most complex international auto manufacturer mergers that the world might

ever see involving companies in Japan and the US and France and Italy. It's huge. But of course,

we need to start with the big business and finance news of the week, which is all about

tariffs. We are going to be talking about tariffs in China. We're going to talk about Huawei.

We're going to talk about Mexico. We are going to unpack what on earth is going on

with this rapidly metastasizing trade war all that. Coming up on Slate money. So the news of the

week is definitely the trade war crazy crazy. So crazy.

I've kind of lost count of how much trade war crazy there was this week because now I'm

looking back on the week.

It was a long week, even though it was a short week.

I vaguely remember a whole bunch of rare earths, this and Huawei, that.
