Iraq and driving terrorists. And now to introduce the discussion, here's John.

Hello and welcome to the Slate Political Gab Fest. I'm John Dickerson, and I'm here with David

Plotz and Emily Bazelon our first topic today.

John McCain stopped by in what's called an off-the-record.

I'm starting with the frivolous part of politics this week because normally we start

the high-minded on the mountain top.

Stopped by at what's called an off-the-record, which is he just stops by a restaurant or something.

And a woman said to him,

what, and what was the fallout? She said, how are you going to beat that bitch, right,

referring to Hillary Clinton? And McCain kind of laughed and started answering. There was no

solemn, sort of proper, I'm not sure about your use of that word, madam. And the fallout has been there,

I'm not sure has there really been a lot of fallout. I didn't like it. I don't think,

I don't think there has been, except that the McCain campaign has gone after CNN for running a

story about this and has now opened up warfare on the press, which is kind of funny since the

press they used to joke is their base.

But I was talking to somebody in the McCain campaign who said they were now threatening to never let anybody go on CNN anymore from the campaign, not letting McCain go on or anything.

I'm sure CNN is crying.
