From 1934, Kenneth Myers was the owner of a small ranch in the Unita Basin, and legend has it that one day he spotted a man on his land.

The man looked rangy and was wearing a long black coat. He couldn't see the man's face.

It seemed to be in a perpetual shadow. The man was toweringly tall.

A short time later, Myers heard a knock on his door in the midst of a snowstorm.

When he answered the door, it was the stranger he'd seen in the fields, the man in black,

who announced that he was from the Sheriff's Department.

Myers knew all the members of the Sheriff's Department very well, but he'd

never seen this man before. The stranger insisted he was from the Sheriff's Department,

and he said he'd come to check on the family to make sure they were okay. When Myers said the

family were fine, the stranger disappeared back into the snowstorm.

Myers watched for a while as the man left, and then there was a bright flash of light, and the man in black vanished.

Swelling light remained at the spot where he'd been.

His footprints led to that spot, but went no further.

After Myers died, the ranch stood empty for several years

until it was purchased by the Sherman's in 1996.

When the Sherman's moved in, strange things began to happen.

They spoke publicly for the first time about it

to Deseret News in 96. Terry Sherman, head of the household, said, for a long time we wondered
