Hey there from CNN. I'm David Rind with the five things you need to know for Wednesday,

February 18th. A search is underway for members of a group of skiers in Northern California. They

went missing after a devastating avalanche swept through the Castle Peak area, and time is ticking

as more bad weather is expected to hit the region tomorrow.

I have bought for avalanche in the area of Pathropute reported at times.

At least 15 skiers were caught in a wave of ice, rocks, and debris at the end of a backcountry trip near Lake Tahoe.

The local sheriff's offices survivors were told to shelter in place while a rescue effort involving highly skilled rescue teams with nearly 50 first responders got underway.

There's no quick way for them to come out, so they're having to wait there.

They have emergency beacons, some of them that communicate via text, so we're in contact with them,

and doing our best to get in there.

And 11 hours later, they reached the skiers.

Despite heavy snow and strong winds, six survivors

with various injuries were transported to a hospital for treatment, but nine others remained missing.

The sheriff's office says the search will continue pending those weather conditions.

Authorities are reviewing tips and canvassing neighborhoods as the search goes on for

84-year-old Nancy Guthrie. hopes for a quick DNA match have faded within the last 24 hours.

CNN's Ed Levendara has more from Tucson, Arizona.

The hope that DNA tests could provide a new lead for investigators has fallen apart here.

Investigators say that the DNA tests from the gloves that were found within several miles of Nancy Guthrie's home

do not match the DNA that was found here at the home that the sheriff said.

Investigators do say that the DNA that was recovered here at the home is now in the process of being put through genealogical databases,
