We start with an update on the investigation into what caused a fire at a Swiss ski resort bar on New Year's Day.

The fast-burning blaze killed about 40 people and injured over 100 others.

Officials say it was likely caused by sparklers and champagne bottles that came too close to the ceiling.

Dozens remain hospitalized and some are still unaccounted for.

Here's an interview from Reuters with a survivor from the fire.

His name is Axel.

We were yelling fire, fire, and then we thought it was a joke, or that it wasn't necessarily serious.

And then suddenly, a huge cloud of black smoke.

We couldn't breathe anymore.

But a crowd gathered, so we couldn't get out.

So we tried to hide.

The only way was through a window, but the windows were blocked.

So I grabbed the table and tried to smash it against a window.

I couldn't, and I thought, well, I'm going to die. But finally, I managed to kick the glass. It broke,

and then we got out. We managed to get people out. We pray for those who stayed behind.

The co-owner of the bar told a local newspaper that the establishment had been inspected

three times in 10 years, and that, quote, everything was done according to the rules.
