Welcome to the show that separates fact from fiction, science from pseudoscience,

by knowing what's real and what's not. The Younger Dryus event, a 1200-year period of unusual cooling at the end of the last ice age, is set by some

to have been inexplicable, according to conventional climatology.

And so, some believe, it must have had an exotic cause, perhaps a barrage of

meteors that wrapped the earth in a shadowy blanket of cold. They believe

this period was so uniquely destructive that it could

only have been the cause for the destruction of Atlantis. Today we're going to

find out whether this is what scientists and historians believe

or whether it's the realm of well other types of thinkers.

First a brief explanation of what the younger dryest period was, as it very much was a real thing.

The most recent Ice Age, often called the last glacial period, is generally considered to have lasted from
