Today we've got a creepy tale that always scared me when I was a kid, so consequently

I read as many books about it as I could, which made me even more scared.

They're called the Dark Watchers, shadowy beings seen in the fog on California's central

coast, who vanish if you look away for even a moment.

But now that I'm a big boy, I think I'm ready to do the work and find out the true history

and origin of these spectral beings.

They stand motionless in long black cloaks.

Surveying the crags and peaks of California's Santa Lucia mountains, the dark watchers look

out to sea, often in broad brimmed hats, often with a staff for walking stick, but always

still and silent and featureless.

The Dark Watchers are said to spot the watchers on some rocky prominence, but by the second

glance, they have always vanished.
