The 1980s were dominated with coming of age movies, but Sixteen Candles was different. It borrowed some of the raunch of Porky's, the angst of Fast Times At Ridgemont High, and the comedy of National Lampoon's Vacation. Even surrounded by a decade of teen comedic romps, Sixteen Candles managed to stand out. It did something unique. It's story wasn't just about the jock or the nerd, it was first and foremost about a young woman. Sam's journey through life, longing, and love is what made this movie an instant classic.
